The Gallup Research identified the following factor as being the most highly-correlated to employee engagement: At work, I have the opportunity every day to do what I do best and enjoy doing.
THE TRUTH ABOUT YOU! You have innate abilities and motivation to achieve a certain unique purpose. When you describe achievements from your work and life that have been particularly satisfying and enjoyable, a consistently recurring pattern is revealed. (click here to see example) This pattern emerges in early years, and while you will continue to learn new knowledge and skills, your basic motivational "pattern" appears to remain fairly constant throughout your life. Thus, the pattern reveals what you want to do in life, what you get excited about and what gives you satisfaction. Most importantly, every time you accomplish a personally significant, enjoyable achievement, you repeat some or all of the elements of your Motivational Pattern. The "fit" of this pattern to your life/work profoundly impacts your self-esteem, your relationships, your career and more importantly, your life. Motivational Patterns are Irrepressible - Regardless of the environment, your pattern will express itself somewhere in your life. Explanatory of the Past and Predictive of the Future - You will always try to perform in accordance with your pattern so the pattern explains your behavior in the past as well as predicts how you will perform in the future. Focused on What, NOT Why - There is no attempt to explain the reasons for, or the causes behind, your pattern. There is no attempt to get at your underlying psychological make-up. Your pattern deals with what you demonstrate, not why. There is no reliance on theories of personality or behavior; no measurement or comparison with other individuals or groups or norms. Enduring - These motivations appear early in your life, appear to be enduring with deepening of interests/skills/knowledge throughout your life, but the basic themes endure like the main trunk on a tree.
